FDA issues a registration number

FDA does not issue a registration certificate. What FDA provides is a registration number.

Foreign facilities need a U.S. Agent

For foreign facilities, FDA verifies that the designated U.S. Agent has agreed to serve before confirming registration and issuing a registration number.

A DUNS number is used as the facility identifier

FDA requires a Unique Facility Identifier (UFI) and recognizes the DUNS number as acceptable. If you don't have one yet, you can request one from Dun & Bradstreet.

Who may need to register?

Generally, facilities that manufacture, process, pack, or hold food for consumption in the United States. Traders and brokers that do not handle food themselves are generally not required to register, but the facility that makes or holds the food may need to.

Renewal

Registrations must be renewed every other year. The current renewal period is October 1, 2026 – December 31, 2026. Registrations not renewed by the deadline are considered expired.
